Ok. Here's the link to my web portfolio.

Also, can you let me know when you're done grading it? I've decided that I'm going to take it down after that because of the other people's writing on it. Thanks!

Whew!
Ok. I think that I figured out how to fix my link issue. I'm so technologically challenged. But anyway, suggestions/comments would still be welcome! Thanks!

Ok. Here's the link to my portfolio.

However, I cannot get the last link on my IJSF page to work. It should work the exact same way as the document before it. But no, no. It refuses to open. Can anyone help me before noon tomorrow? Any other comments/suggestions are welcome as well!
Thanks!

Week 14 & 15 (The Goodbye)
I had my last day of internship today... I hate change and I really liked Matt & Val, so I'm actually a little sad that it's over.
I finally finished the book that Val gave me probably a month ago. So I sent that off to her last night. And Matt had given me another journal to proofread if I had time. Well, I didn't have a ton of extra time in the last week, so I only got two articles proofread. Sorry Matt. He didn't seem that upset about it.
While I was there, I did a little exit interview. I talked about how much I liked it, but I couldn't really come up with anything they could improve upon. That's a skill I really need to develop. Not necessarily being critical, but I work so hard at putting a positive spin on things and if something does go wrong I blame myself that it's hard for me to find fault with other people, espically people that I work for.
Anyway, I also filled out a little bit of paperwork so that I can do freelance work for them after I graduate. They said they'd start sending me things as early as this summer. I get to set my own rates, but most people who work for them charge $1-$2 a page for proofreading and $1-$3 a page for copyediting, depending on how well or poorly written a document is. They said that this is on the low end for publishing in general, but comperable to other publishers their size. It doesn't really matter to me because getting paid for this at all will be a bit of a change. And I can do it at 3 AM in my pajamas when I can't sleep. Maybe law is the wrong career for me... just kidding. But this will be good for me as a way to make a little money on the side.
Then they took me to lunch, which I thought was so sweet of them. We just kind of chatted about random things. It was very nice. I'm so glad that I got to intern with such great people in an environment that really complimented my skills and my personality.

Writing Assignment 4
This class ended up being much of what I thought it was going to be. I did end up doing a LOT of copyediting. But I also got to do other things like take a journal from start to (almost) finish. I also did some/learned about some things with pull quotes, cover design, email skills, and reference sections.
As far as my web portfolio goes, I still have many of the same anxieties I did at the begining. Copyediting is the majority of what I did and it's still not fancy or exciting. And I am still nervous about my lack of web skills. But I have confidence that I will overcome these things or else I will be in Scott Wible's office every day asking questions!
I'm not sure what of this I'll include in my cover letter. I will reflect on all of the experiences I have had throughtout the semester and what they have tought me about the editing/publishing process.

Week 12 & 13
I forgot to blog last week...
So what have I done in two weeks...
I finished the proofreading for IJSF. I don't know how many mistakes there were supposed to be, but I found kind of a lot as far as I was concerned. But since I've never done this before, who knows. Matt didn't seem bothered by it. So we sent those away to Jamie and I kept a copy so that I could proof them when they got back.
And then she sent me the new PDF and there were only 4 mistakes, two of which stemmed from my handwriting. Which is bad because I tried really hard to write neatly!
I went in today and broke down the new PDF and sent all of that away to the woman who puts things online. She works right next door and said that they would be put up soon. While I was there I also did some pull quotes for Matt from an article. I have copyediting stuff to do for Val that I've had FOREVER. I have been really bad the last week because I've been super busy, but I'm going to get on the ball. I have to; my semester is winding down!
As far as my web portfolio goes... YIKES! I have my meeting tomorrow morning. And.... I really don't know what to do. I mean, I think I know what I want to say. I want to talk about how important structure is and talk about APA style and my example would be a reference section. And I want to talk about the process of producing a journal and I have a bunch of examples for that. But none of them are really very good examples that would be easy for someone to look at and go "Oh yes, I see what she means." And really that's all I did this semester. Oh, and copyediting. But that's hard to look at too! And that's only 3 things - is that enough for a web portfolio??? AH!!

Week 11
This week I actually went into the office on Monday. Jamie (our typesetter) had emailed Matt & me the PDF file with the proofs of the pages and Matt wanted to give me hard copies to proofread and have me break down the files and email them to the authors. So I learned the new skill of breaking down parts of a PDF file into smaller pieces. I also had to send all of the authors their copyright agreements. This is a standard form that I simply had to insert their name, title of the article, and issue number into. I have already received a few questions/comments back from the authors and am trying to deal with their issues as promptly as possible. Matt wants me to have the proofreading back to him by next Wednesday, so I better get on it.
I finally finished all of the MLA formatting for that reference section and sent it to Matt over the weekend. He said that it looked like it was in very good shape. I haven't even started on the chapters Val gave to me yet. I feel really bad about it, but she said they weren't pressing, and I've had so many other things to do for my internship lately. This whole thing has really been more work than I anticipate. Oh well, I think I'm getting very good experience.
Other than that, everything is good. I'm still not sure what the direction of my web portfolio is or if I even remember how to make a web portfolio. But I'm sure that we'll talk about this at our next meeting. I cannot believe that the end of the semester is so close. The anxiety of graduation is become more and more real every day!
